Santa Claus is coming to town

Well, it's taken me a little while to get these pictures up. Here are our Christmas decorations.
Fabric wreath for our front door. This wreath is cool because it can be made for any season and it's super easy.

Stocking from my parents and Santa sign made by Janelle.

Cool centerpiece wreath with added Christmas berries.

Little nativity and snowman surrounding our family.

Pillows using leftover fabric from the wreath.

Our seasons tree.

Silver and green garland surrounding our built in entertainment area.

Our little Christmas village.
Advent calendar I made based on this. I didn't buy the pattern I just made it based on the pictures.

Our silver and blue Christmas tree for our family room.

Our main Christmas tree. Hopefully as the years go by we'll get more ornaments for it.
OK, so this isn't a decoration, but I thought it was cool. We made blue, raspberry pancakes!
I hope you're all enjoying this holiday season!

Recent Crafts

Well I have been busy sewing away for the past few weeks. The most time consuming project won't appear until Christmas, but I finished it and I am way excited for Christmas now, so you will just have to wait in anticipation for Christmas to see what I made ;-). As well I have made two car seat covers, and a little fabric box. Both car seat covers where made out of flannel which was fun. I also made two wipe cases but forgot to take pictures of them :'(. Oh well, you will just have to trust me that they were very cute!

Car seat cover #1 for my cousin Nicole who is having a little boy within the next few weeks.

Car seat cover #2 for my friend who is also having a little boy over Thanksgiving.

Little fabric box, I came across this tutorial a little while ago and just had to try it.

Thursday Thanks

This week I'm truly grateful for Brandon and his continual love and support. I really couldn't ask for a better man to live with for eternity. I'm also grateful for this months Ensign. It is full of wonderful articles about eternal marriage. I really like one of the articles by Elder Hales. He talks about how marriage is like climbing a mountain he says, "Celestial marriage is like climbing a mountain. You tie yourself to an eternal companion, and you start up the mountain. As children come along, you tie into them as well and continue your journey. The ropes will hold all of the mountain climbers together, but the wind, rain, snow, and ice—challenges of the world—will tear at you to pull you off that mountain. How do you reach the summit? If Mom or Dad gives up and cuts the rope that binds them to each other and their children, chances are that one or the other may fall off the mountain and perhaps pull down other family members with them. The whole family could fall off that mountain and not reach the eternal summit. We can’t take that chance. Let us always be mindful that as members of a family, we are tied to a mountain team that is attempting to return to the presence of our Heavenly Father."
I really like the imagery he uses. I'm so glad I have Brandon and that he wants to climb the mountain, by my side back to Heavenly Father's presence. Marriage is not easy, but with the right mind set and goals, together you can make it through anything.

Thursday Thanks

This week I'm thankful for the church songs and hymns.

Almost instantly, when starting to sing them or hum them, I am filled with the spirit. Sometimes I just need to be able to quickly call on the spirit and receive its strength and peace in my life. Singing the hymns and children's songs allow me to do that. I feel as if the Savior is gathering me up in His arms and whispering to my heart exactly what I need to hear. I am so grateful that men and women used their talents to create such beautiful and inspiring pieces of music.

Thursday Thanks

Well this week I'm going to a copy a post I wrote long ago, but for a different reason.

This week I'm grateful for music.

Recently I have started running, I figure it is the cheapest best exercise I can do and I don't mind thinking of myself as a runner some day. Anyways, I haven't gone very far, but I have to start somewhere, and while I haven't gone very far I have considered quitting several times. One of the major things keeping me motivated is my music. I love music and it helps me keep running when I can think about something else, and music is that something else. I love it, I am so grateful for so many different genres of music, that really allow me to listen to something to match my mood every time. What a wonderful gift music is!

Thursday Thanks

Well, I have not blogged in a few weeks. Last Thursday I woke up and had a lot of back pain so I took it easy that day and did not get around to blogging, and the Thursday before that I went to our Stake Humanitarian Day and that threw my day off so I totally forgot to blog. It also doesn't help that lately it has been hard for me to think of things to be grateful for, just because sometimes it is hard to see past the huge trial continually sitting center stage. But that is one of the reasons I decided to start blogging about things I am thankful for, because it helps me to stay more positive (sometimes :-) ). So, on a side note Brandon and I received callings in our new ward, we have been called to team teach in primary. We have not been given a class assignment yet, so for the next two weeks, until we do get our assignment, we will be substituting the 10 year-olds. I am a little nervous about teaching primary but I think it will be a lot of fun and a good learning experience, and it is really nice that Brandon and I get to do it together. Okay so back to my real reason for this post...

This week I am thankful for paint.

Family room media wall.
Kitchen nook
I know it kind of seems like an odd thing to be thankful for but I am so glad we don't have to live in an all white world. I always liked to paint the walls in my bedroom growing up, I just like color, and now that I have my own house I have loved the possibilities of how I can paint, to make it feel more like our home. I love how the walls look right after you paint them, they are so fresh and clean. I recently finished two painting projects in our house, as you can see from the pictures above and I absolutely love how they turned out (now if we could just decide on a color for our half bath...). So, today I thank anyone and everyone that was involved in the creation of this wonderful medium.

What are you thankful for lately?

Thursday Thanks

This week I am thankful for visiting teaching.

I am so blessed to have the opportunity to take time out of my day to visit and chat with ladies in our ward. I don't know how much they are strengthened by my visit but I know that I am, and I am grateful for that. There is just something special about bonding with just women that gives you strength to keep pushing forward no matter what happens.

Recent Projects

Well I have recently finished a few more projects for those I know that are having baby's soon.

First I made two bibs for my cousin Nicole's soon to be baby boy.

Then I made a car seat cover for my brother and sister-in-laws also soon to be baby boy from this tutorial.

I love this fabric. I told Hanni and Adam that if they don't like it I would gladly take and keep it for the day that I have a baby boy because I think it is adorable. But they also loved the fabric so I will just have to find another set of good fabric when it's time for us.
The underneath side is opposite the top.

I also made a covered wipe case for one of my friends who is also having a baby boy, but I forgot to take a picture before I gave it to her.

I have loved making all of these baby gifts, it gives me so many ideas for what I want to make for myself and my babies one day.

Thursday Thanks

Well this week I have so much to be thankful for, and I can't decide what to post about. So rather than choosing I'm going to list it all.

This week I'm grateful for my life!

I am grateful for a wonderful husband who loves me and does everything in his power to make me happy. I am grateful for a wonderful family, in-laws, and extended family who are always there for me and Brandon, and are continually praying for us. I am grateful for the beautiful house Brandon and I were fortunate enough to get to one day hold a beautiful family I know we will have. I am grateful for the day and age we live in, when medicine and technology can bless our lives so abundantly. I am grateful for my knowledge of the gospel. I am grateful for the knowledge I have of the true natures of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I am grateful for Their continual love for me and all of the many blessings they grant to me everyday of me life.

So what are you grateful for this week?

Thursday Thanks

This week I am thankful for our Savior's continual love and patience.

I have been struggling a lot lately with our current trial concerning the start of our family. I was praying for help and strength but deep down wasn't trusting the Lord and his plan for us. He has been standing at the door this entire time just waiting for me to open the door and let him in. Yesterday, I finally was able to do that and it is amazing how much it has helped. Christ tells us to take His yoke, for His yoke is light and easy to bare, but we have to choose to do this, he cannot force us. And this promise is true, His yoke is light. I am so thankful that even as I complained to Heavenly Father in my prayers he didn't give up on me, and that the Savior was patient enough to keep waiting for me to make the choice to trust Heavenly Father's plan and to turn to them.

Thursday Thanks

Well, it's funny how vital these Thursday Thanks posts are for me. For the past few weeks I have not been thinking of all the things I should be grateful for, but rather everything I wish I had. So, forcing myself to think of one new thing that I am grateful for this week is a good exercise to keep me grounded.

This week I am thankful for a friendly neighborhood.

Moving into a house is much different than moving into an apartment, at least in our case it is. When we moved into our apartment, no one came by to welcome us, which is fine, but since we have moved in to our home two people have brought over home-baked goodies and welcomed us here (although one was by mistake, but she can accidentally bring me goodies any time she wants, they were delicious). Our next door neighbor passed us while we were both on evening walks, and she took the time to introduce herself and welcome us to the neighborhood. Then last night while we were out on our evening walk some people that were sitting out on the driveway invited us to come over, gave us homemade rolls with homemade strawberry freezer jam, and chatted with us. It does make it nice that they were in our new ward so they had an extra reason to get to know us but it was still very nice. We picked a good neighborhood, I think, and I am glad everyone is so friendly!

Thursday Thanks

Well, I'm going to kind of smoosh what could be two posts into one, and I apologize already for how long it is, but don't give up now, there are a lot of pictures.

This week I'm thankful for a wonderful, busy, fun vacation! We had a blast traveling through California and into Arizona. Here is what we did (with pictures!)

Day one: Nothing too exciting, we drove 11 hours from Boise to Merced, CA. Brandon's youngest sister Breanne rode in our car and we had a great time. We almost got hit by a truck with a boat, traveled through at least an hour of torrential downpour, but it was a good travel day overall. Unfortunately I don't find car trips particularly picture worthy so there are no pictures for day one.

Day two: We spent a few hours driving to Sequoia National Forest/Park. Then a few hours roaming around the Giant Forest. We saw several huge trees, it was really cool. Not quite the weather we had hoped for so we didn't go on as long of a hike as most would have wanted but it was still fun. And while the fog was a big contributor to the cold, damp, did I mention cold, conditions, it was really cool, kind of gave the forest a mysterious feeling. After visiting the forest we drove another 5 hours to get to another hotel for the night about 30 minutes from Newport Beach.

Cross section of a Sequoia tree, they are huge!

You had to walk under the tree, next too the splashing water fall, cool but I was very aware of the possibility of slipping and getting really wet.

This tree was really cool, you could walk into it , and look at the inside of the tree.

Sequoia tree huggers ;-)

I thought the Senate was the coolest because there were so many of the Sequoia's all together.

This tree was pretty cool, it was really tall, but half burned which made it look cool.

Day three: We drove the thirty minutes to Newport Beach, dropped our car off at the new hotel/resort and headed to the beach. We spent a long time at the beach, playing in the cold water, walking to a sea cave, building great walls of sand to protect our stuff from the incoming tide, and laying in the sun. Unfortunately most of us did not apply sunscreen as often as we should have (Brandon blames the sand) and so most of us got burnt. Brandon burnt the bottom of his legs and his feet so bad it was painful/hard to walk, I felt bad but he was a trooper!

Stephanie and Breanne trying to wake board.

After the tide started coming in and got our stuff twice we decided to move everything up onto a little hill, and Brandon and his brother's began making a great wall of sand to protect our stuff from the incoming tide.

Great wall of sand
Day four: We headed over to Disneyland for a day of excitement. It was pretty fun. although I wish it was less crowded. We didn't get to go on all of the rides, but we made it to a few great ones. Unfortunately we didn't get any pictures. Brandon's parents took a few, but we have not gotten any from them yet, so no pictures for day four.

Day five: We finally got to sleep in. The whole reason the California trip came to be was because Brandon's parents were offered a really great price for a resort, if they went and listened to an hour and a half shpeel about the resort and why they should sign up. So day five was the day for that, and everyone else got to sleep in and relax. That afternoon we went to Newport Beach. It was a much bigger, sandier beach; however, it was really windy, the water was cold, and Brandon was still sporting his terrible burns. Brandon's siblings got out in the water, I laid on a towel on the sand, trying to be as low as possible to get out of the wind and be warmed by the sun (it worked nicely for a while), and Brandon sat in a chair underneath a huge umbrella. Might not sound like a blast, but it was relaxing and not too bad. And once again we didn't take any pictures at this beach. We are not the best picture takers...oops.

Day six: We all went on a deep sea fishing trip. I didn't actually fish, I have no problem eating the fish but touching them is a totally different story. So, I sat on the boat and documented everything through pictures. Trevor and Dad were the only two to actually get their fish on to the boat. Most of the fish being caught that day were Barracuda and they are not the easiest to real in. Brandon got his all the way to the boat, and then a sea lion snatched it and swam away, kind of freaked Brandon out since his line just kept going and going, he didn't know what he was going to do when there was not more line, but luckily he didn't have to find out because the line broke and the sea lion got away with his fish and the hook. Overall it was a great time. After the fishing trip we drove for seven hours, 2-3 hrs more than we originally planned because of terrible traffic, to get to Lake Havasu City, AZ.

Sea Lion trying to get some of the bait while we were filling the boat with bait.

Dad, Trevor and Westy setting up their poles

Brandon, Stephanie, and Breanne setting up their poles, and mom watching everyone.
Dad's first fish. The guy that brought it into the boat kept kicking the fish to knock it out...poor fish.  The hole is from where they stab it with a long spearish hook thing, to bring it into the boat.

Trevor's first fish, too small to keep, but still cool.

Trevor's second fish, this one was big enough to keep.

Dad's second fish. He was a fighter, he kept squirming around, squirting blood everywhere. Gross.

Dad and Trevor with their fish.

Brandon holding one of their fish, since technically he did catch one, but it was stolen. Dumb sea lion.

A bunch of sea lions on the buoy. One sea lion kept trying to get up but there was just no more room, so he kept sliding off. It was kind of funny to watch.
Day seven: We drove up to the southern rim of the Grand Canyon, after visiting the London Bridge in Lake Havasu. The Grand Canyon was spectacular. After the Grand Canyon we parted ways and Brandon's family headed for Mesa Verde, while we headed for home. We drove five more hours through mountain roads to get to Cedar City, UT. On the last road of our trip we had to drive very slowly, as Brandon put it the poor road had nothing going for it. We saw 13 deer, 1 of which was actually in the middle of the road, the rest all right off the road, the road was very curvy and completely lined with trees and the road had been damaged by a lot of felled rocks. Luckily no rocks fell as we were driving, but the cautious driving did make that road seem to take forever.

The London Bridge.

Old watch tower. It was really high. You could walk all the way to the top set of windows. I'm gonna say maybe not the best idea when your "afraid" of heights. Kind of makes you light headed to look out the window and down into the Grand Canyon, but it was pretty cool.

I didn't walk over to the windows, I stayed grounded in the middle. Too high for me.

Day eight: We drove the 8.5 hrs back to good old Boise.

Overall, it was a great trip. We had a lot of fun and we all traveled safely. I am so grateful we had this vacation, we needed it. And even though it wasn't the most relaxing it took our minds off of a lot of things and we have been a lot more relaxed since. I am grateful that Brandon's family was willing to have us tag along, it was a lot of fun to hang out with all of them, and I am grateful for the opportunity I had to get to know them all a little better.

Sorry the post was so long maybe this week you are grateful that you got through it?
